9x9.tv has been selected as the platform to host Taiwan's inaugural "Wei Film" Festival (or "Very Short Form Film" Festival).

Sponsored by the Taiwan government (http://www.weifilm.com.tw) and 9x9.tv's existing Cloud TV partner CTS (http://cts.9x9.tv), the Wei Film Festival is a nationwide contest for independent film creators and producers to submit very short films of virtually any  topic.

A pool of NT3.8 Million (approximately USD $130,000) award has been set aside for winners of this contest.  Never before in history has there been such a nationwide movement to spur independent creativity and originality in very short film production.  Thousands of entries are expected to be submitted for this contest.

2013 is starting out right for the rockstars and ninjas at 9x9.tv.  We're especially excited today because The Next Web (TNW) wrote about us!  Being an avid tech-blog reader myself, I read TNW on a daily basis via my reader app.  Therefore seeing a project we ninjas have worked so hard on appearing on TNW is a huge honor (you can read the original article here).

9x9.tv Featured Alongside of Flipboard & BuzzFeed for Youtube's API Launch!

Just when we thought it couldn't get any better (being on TechCrunch), Youtube announced the new Youtube Android Player API on their official API blog (you can read it here), and featured the 9x9.tv Android app alongside of industry heavyweights such as Flipboard and BuzzFeed in the blogpost!

Obviously, this is very exciting for the ninjas at work here at 9x9.tv.  It's truly encouraging to receive acknowledgement for something we're so passionate about, especially when placed alongside of other veteran applications!

We're on TechCrunch!! :D

In case you still can't tell, the ninjas and monkeys here at 9x9.tv are extremely excited about being on TechCrunch!

Ryan Lawler of TechCrunch wrote a great piece about the 9x9.tv Android application we just released on December 21 (you can read the full article here).

This is only just a beginning though! We're definitely heading back to the lab to make the 9x9.tv Android app smoother and easier to use!

A Small Trick to Switch Video with Fling in developing 9x9.tv Android App

One of the requirements of the 9x9 Player on Android is to move to the next or previous episode of a channel when a user performs a horizontal fling, and change channels for a vertical fling.

Android has a good gesture detection manager built into it, and a View may be extended to make use of it.  However, the YouTubePlayerView class is declared final -- for reasons unclear, but probably to prevent tampering with advertising or some equally important reason.

Developing 9x9.tv Android App with YouTube Android Player API

9x9.tv has been developing web application using YouTube API, both Data API and JavaScript Player API since 2011. We have been interested in developing a 9x9.tv Andorid App for a while. The availability of YouTube Android Player API indeed comes in the right time, and we jump on the bandwagon for the Android App development.

Start the Development

When we first received an early version of the YouTube API, it was distributed as an Eclipse Project Library.  The inherent brittleness of Eclipse makes this form of distribution extremely problematic. Breakages in the IDE are often poorly explained, and quite time consuming to resolve.

9x9.tv and CTS Signs MOU!

As we all know, technology is advancing fast, and it's important for traditional industries to participate to help drive innovation further for the benefits of consumers.  One TV-station - Chinese Television System (CTS), one of the very first TV-stations in Taiwan - is a great example of how participating in new media can be both exciting and potentially disruptive.

CTS is already an important Youtube Content Partner in Taiwan.  Their Youtube channel has already received 105 million views to-date, with over 35 thousand subscribers watching their content on a daily basis.  Being an innovative TV-station, CTS wants to push the envelope even further, and 9x9.tv is there to push with them!

With the objective of content modularization, reuse and multi-screen delivery, 9x9.tv and CTS signed an MOU to see just how far we can take TV content to as partners.

9x9.tv on iOS: More Personalization!

We've made a whole bunch of small updates since we first launched the 9x9.tv iOS application back in June, 2011.  This time, we decided to redesign the entire app so you get something fresh to play with!

Your personal Guide is now consisted of 9 sleek-looking folders.  We decided to group them together to make it easier for you to find your channel subscriptions.  You can also label each grouping according to your liking!

By tapping on the little shopping bag icon at the top right, you can also access the newly revamped 9x9.tv Channel Store.

Flip through and preview channels simply by tapping up and down on the arrow, or just by swiping your finger left/right/up/down.  Simple as that! The next video or channel will start playing instantaneously!

New Look for 9x9.tv!

After months of planning and building, the rockstars and ninjas at 9x9 finally finished giving 9x9.tv a facelift!

In our previous versions, 9x9.tv wanted to let 9x9.tv curators and viewers customize their own 9x9 Guide right away, and thus placed the Guide as our front door.  What we realized was that even though it was a great idea and the idea was appreciated by many of our users, some found it to be confusing at times (aka. "where are all the cloud TV channels?").

At 9x9, we really take our users feedback seriously, because what we want to do, is build a cloud TV platform that's enjoyable by even our grand-parents.  Therefore, we knew we had to rethink and redesign 9x9.tv from the ground up.

9x9.tv officially in Youtube Project Gallery

Good news! 9x9.tv has been officially accepted into Youtube Project Gallery!

Youtube Project Gallery is a great place for developers to showcase their hardwork.  It allows users to give feedback, and give developers the chance to fine-tune their application.

Since 9x9.tv enables our users to collect and curate online video clips into cloud video channels, being admitted into Youtube Project Gallery adds nearly infinite amount of videos for our curators!

Less is More

Video discovery is an impulse business.

Similar to taking a stroll in a shopping mall on a Sunday afternoon, most consumers don't really know what to buy until they see something that catch their eyes.  At 9x9.tv, our belief is that videos cannot be searched very well.

We believe the best way to discover new video content is by simply browsing through a finite collection of videos organized into TV-like channels.
